With the recent rain & storms, Halibut fishing has picked up a bit & is expected to get better by Derby timer. Halibut have been reported south of the bay near Torrance Beach, as well as to the north of MDR near Santa Monica & Malibu.  Most fish have been caught in water from 80-35ft, with a 40lb+ flatty topping the scale in early Jan.

THE MARINA DEL REY HALIBUT DERBY IS SET FOR APRIL 4 & 5, 2009!

 

The Marina Del Rey Halibut Derby has been held every year since 1974.  April 4th & 5th, 2009 will be our 35th year.  The Derby is the oldest and largest fishing tournament on the West Coast.  The Halibut Derby is the last 100% non-profit tournament on the west coast.  The event has attracted almost a thousand participants and over 300 boats every year.  Entrants have come from as far as Northern California, Arizona and Nevada.  Continue>
